The Level 2 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace is aimed at all level of employees. This qualification is specifically intended for employed professionals and for those who are adapting to start or returning to work. This qualification is also useful for young workers especially to raise their skills in identifying and understanding the different workplace hazards in their workplace.
Employees/persons acquiring this qualification will know that health and safety is prime responsibility of everyone in an organization including the employer, its contractors, visitors, suppliers and others.
Its subject areas are regarded by the Health and Safety Executive as being important to maintaining safe working procedures in the workplace.
There is one mandatory unit in this qualification:
Unit 1: Health and Safety in the Workplace
- Understand roles and responsibilities for health, safety and welfare in the workplace.
- Understand how risk assessments contribute to health and safety.
- Understand how to identify and control the risk from common workplace hazards.
- Know the procedure for responding to accidents and incidents in the workplace.
To achieve this qualification learner must successfully complete the assessment.

How is the qualification assessed?
This qualification is assessed through a 30 multiple-choice question examination. The duration of the examination is 1 hour. Learners have to score at least 20 out of 30 to achieve this qualification.
